FAQ

What photos work best?

Clear, well-lit photos where faces or pets are easy to see. One or two photos is plenty.

What will I see?

Every idea comes back as three different takes on a finished kimono, shown front and back with white or black trim. They come in four art styles: Bold Cartoon, Ukiyo-e, Retro Sticker and Painted Storybook.

What's the difference between a tossed print, a painted scene and a mirror block?

A tossed print scatters your subject (your pet, your person, your idea) all over the fabric at different sizes and angles. A painted scene redraws the place in your photo with your idea in it, and repeats with no visible grid, like wallpaper. A mirror block reflects a scene into a bold, symmetrical kaleidoscope repeat. You'll see a mix of these each time.

How many designs can I see?

You get 3 rounds of designs: the first three, then "Show me 3 more" twice, for nine in all. Then you can tweak your favourite twice: tap "Tweak this one" and tell us what to change, like "make the dogs bigger" or "a navy background". Your earlier designs stay on the page, so you can compare. It's all free.

What if none of the designs are right?

Once you've used your 3 rounds and 2 tweaks, ask our designers. Tell us what you'd change and we'll make it for you, free. Your proof arrives by email within 1 business day, and you only pay if you choose to order.

How much does a kimono cost?

$139 in every size, XS to 2XL, with free shipping in the US. Designing is free.

Do you have group or bundle discounts?

Dressing a bridal party or sending group gifts? Order 2 kimonos and save 10%, or 3 or more and save 20%. Mix designs and sizes; the discount is applied automatically, no code needed. The bundle discounts don't combine with each other: you always get the better one.

When am I charged, and when does it print?

You pay at checkout. After checkout we email your proof. You have 96 hours to approve it or ask for a change (2 free changes). You can cancel for a full refund within 48 hours of ordering, as long as you haven't approved your proof yet. Once it's approved, your kimono may already be in production, so we can't promise to cancel it. If we don't hear from you within 96 hours, it's approved automatically and goes to print. Every kimono is made to order, so we can't take returns or exchanges for size or a change of mind. If yours arrives misprinted or damaged, send us photos within 14 days of delivery and we'll reprint it or refund you.

Can I cancel?

Yes, for a full refund, within 48 hours of ordering, as long as you haven't approved your proof yet. Use the cancel button on your proof page. Once your proof is approved, your kimono may already be in production, so we can't promise to cancel it, but email us and we'll see what we can do.

Can I change something after I order?

Yes. On your proof page, tap "Request a change" and tell us what to change. Up to 2 changes are free, and each new proof arrives within 1 business day. After your 2 free changes, email support@kustomkimonos.com (or just reply to your proof email) and we'll send the proof back.

Will it look exactly like the preview?

Close, but not exact. The preview is a simulation, and printed colours can vary slightly from your screen.

How long does it take?

Kimonos are printed and sewn to order. Production and shipping usually take 3–4 weeks from proof approval.

Can I return it?

Every kimono is made to order, so we can't take returns or exchanges for size or a change of mind. If yours arrives misprinted or damaged, email support@kustomkimonos.com with photos within 14 days of delivery and we'll reprint it or refund you. See our refund policy.
